Koga Mitsuru, also known as Mitchi, was found as an infant in a sacred area, Mizugaki, in the neighbourhood of Shiogama Temple by one of its resident monks. He was estimated to be around three months old at the time of discovery. The shrine's chief monk, who is also an advisor to the shrine's elders, gave the name "Koga Mitsuru" as a symbol of hope and protection for this mysterious child's future.Since childhood, Mitsuru has demonstrated a unique ability: interacting with yōkai, supernatural beings that often roam around temples. This power made him unique in the eyes of Monk Koga Noburu, who also educated and mentored Mitsuru in Onmyōdō (a mystical science that combines elements of the occult, philosophy, and natural sciences). In addition to his ability to communicate with yōkai, Mitsuru was also diagnosed with ADHD at the age of six, a condition that results in accidental magical incidents when his emotions are unstable. This made his powers challenging to control, and he was warned to hide them to avoid misuse by ill-intentioned parties.Mitsuru grew up in a very closed environment at Shiogama Shrine, without much opportunity to interact with the outside world. The only time he saw and met people from outside was during the annual festival held at the temple. Those were some of the most liberating moments of his life, as Monk Noburu allowed him to join in the activities and experience life outside of the temple world.
At the age of 15, Mitsuru's life took a drastic turn. Amidst his doubts about the meaning of his existence and his uniqueness, which made him feel isolated, an extraordinary phenomenon occurred. A magnificent carriage with beautiful ornaments flashed across the blue sky one summer day. Amazed and curious, he rushed to tell Monk Noburu about the event. The monk, who had been guiding Mitsuru patiently, greeted the story with a serene smile. He said that the time had come for Mitsuru to begin his new journey and handed Mitsuru a parchment containing an invitation for the young mages to gain knowledge at the renowned school of sorcery, Mahotokoro.The next day, the monks who knew his secret escorted Mitsuru to the station. There, amidst a magical atmosphere, the magic train appeared and stopped before him. Eagerly, Mitsuru stepped onto the train, embarking on a journey that would bring him closer to understanding his powers and the secrets of a world he had never known.Mitsuru's adventure is the beginning of an incredible journey, a quest for self-discovery and understanding of his mystical powers. Mitsuru will face various challenges on this journey, meet other supernatural beings, and perhaps discover the secret of his mysterious origins.
